London → New Zealand · 2011
One year, twenty-seven countries, 43,000 kilometres home — without a single flight until the very end.
By train, bus, boat, ferry, hitched rides and the occasional bicycle — no flying until the last leg home.
The plan was simple and slightly mad: get from London all the way home to New Zealand overland. South through France and Italy, east across the Balkans and up through Eastern Europe into Russia, the Trans-Siberian railway through Mongolia and China, then down the length of Southeast Asia to Indonesia.
Spin the globe below to trace the route, dive into any of the seven legs, or read straight through from Day One.
